Hi, I'm Shelley! 

I’m originally from Torrance, CA. Growing up I’ve always had a love for art. I think it comes from my dad because we used to spend hours after school drawing together. I’m so thankful my parents nourished my creativity at a young age. That led me to pursue a career in graphic design. In 2018, I graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. After entering the workforce right out of college, I was able to gain experience in publication but eventually wanted to expand my skill set by learning UX Design through DesignLab. I am now currently employed at a local design firm in Honolulu, HI.

HAWAI‘I Magazine / Hawaii Home + Remodeling Magazine

Responsible for all aspects of social media posts, newsletter creation, article uploads, web ads, digital reports, giveaways/contests and web forms for both HAWAI‘I and Hawaii Home + Remodeling Magazines. Two premier publications under the flagship of PacificBasin Communications. Duties include web posting daily articles several times a day, creating IG stories relating to website content, edit copy, images and sponsored materials to align with brand standards. Also, collaborate with the edit and sales team to curate the weekly newsletter, work on dedicated newsletters, layout photos and copy to best fits client’s needs. For InDesign files, convert copy, resize images, add tags, alternative text, and SEO friendly headlines and subheads, then translate and upload magazine articles to the web. Other duties include managing sponsored web ads, creating new key-values/ad spots for native content pieces from new clients and upload new ads to the web via Google Ad Manager. Pull data analytics from across different platforms, audience overview, social media and newsletter’s numbers and aggregate the data into a monthly editorial digital report summary. Originate the marketing campaign for company’s Giveaways/Contests, scheduling, promotion, social posts (FB/IG) and communicate with winners, sales and circulation. Create the voter web form for each island used for the annual Reader’s Choice Awards for HAWAI‘I Magazine.


Responsible for all creative aspects of an Associate Art Director with specialization in the areas of advertising, marketing and editorial pages for HONOLULU Magazine. For advertising, managed all ads for HONOLULU Magazine, HONOLULU Family, and any other custom publication. This included, but was not limited to all special sections for HONOLULU Magazine’s “Top Doctors”, “Best Dentists”, “Best Lawyers”, “Holiday Gift Guide”, “Private School Guide” and all other special sections. Collaborated with Account Coordinator and Account Executives to ensure the highest quality for each ad by sizing to the correct spec or building the ad entirely from scratch.  Managed the print proofing process prior to press, including laser proof round and InSite proofing to confirm the correct and final ad version for each magazine. Biggest accomplishment filling in as Account Coordinator organizing all ad materials through direct emails with the AE’s. Organized the ad statues from start to finish for each publication, managed multiple and overlapping deadlines to ensure readiness for press day while performing all other primary duties as Associate Art Director in parallel. For marketing, designed marketing collateral for HONOLULU Magazine and HONOLULU Family events (Hale Aina, BrunchFest, Best of Honolulu, Rose Soiree, Cover Kids), which included the landing pages, banner ads, event programs, invitations, slideshows, and signage. Other responsibilities as the market and business dictate. For editorial, managed the design of the “front of book” and “back of book” editorial pages for HONOLULU Magazine. Collaborate with the Art Directors, Editors and Sales department to create a shared vision of the magazine. Provide direction to photographers, illustrators and writers to understand the shared vision of the brand and deliver a final product that is consistent with the vision. Manage and maintain document storage and organization on the internal server in accordance with established file storage and archival standards.  Manage multiple projects to consistently meet deadlines while maintain the highest standards of layout and design of advertising, special sections, event collateral, newsletters, program logos and website within budgeted objectives.
